On 19th February 2026, I had the incredible opportunity to present to practice leaders through North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network (NWPHN) on one of the most pressing challenges in healthcare right now Culture & Retention.
The session, “Building Bulletproof Teams: Why Great People Leave and How to Make Them Stay”, brought together familiar and new faces who are navigating the real pressures of general practice workforce shortages, burnout, compliance demands and the constant juggle of leadership.
We explored a simple but powerful shift: Retention isn’t about working harder it’s about creating clarity.
Clarity in:
• Roles
• Expectations
• Systems
• Values
• Conversations
We unpacked why great people really leave (hint: it’s rarely just money), how to identify dissatisfaction early, and practical frameworks leaders can implement immediately from stronger onboarding to meaningful performance conversations and operational excellence for both doctors and admin teams.
One of the strongest messages of the day? You are not the thermometer of your culture you are the thermostat.
At Private Practice Medical Consulting, this is exactly the work we love doing. Leadership development. Team alignment. Practical systems that reduce chaos and strengthen retention. No fluff just clear strategies that make your clinic easier to lead and a place people want to stay.
If your practice is ready to move from reactive firefighting to confident leadership, let’s talk. www.privatemc.com.au
